Candida Treatment & Antifungal Herbal Remedies
Got Candida? If so, antifungal herbal remedies might not be the best treatment. Here’s why . . .
There are a group of antifungal herbs that have traditionally been used to manage Candida yeast overgrowth. You can buy these herbs or combinations of herbs at any health food store, and there is nothing bad or dangerous about them.
If that’s true, then why not use these herbal treatments to fight Candida?
We love herbal remedies . . . for most issues. (In fact, we have one cupboard in our kitchen that we jokingly refer to as “the herb department”). However, herbs have a limitation because of the very nature of Candida. Bottom line: the usefulness of herbs in suppressing the Candida fungal yeast works only for a short time (usually only a matter of days to weeks), and then that clever Candida builds up a resistance against the individual herb, sort of like an antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
An Example of a Candida Treatment That Loses Effectiveness
For example, let’s say your natural healer prescribes oil of oregano. Oregano is a powerful remedy against Candida, but only for the short term. After a week or two, it won’t seem to be working as well, and then you will find it isn’t working at all!
That’s why most healthcare providers prescribe a rotating regimen of herbs: two weeks on one, then switch to another, then a third, perhaps a fourth, then back to the first . . . But that involves having a lot of products and remembering how often to rotate them, what you took last, and so on.
Anti-Candida health food store products often combine a group of anti-fungal herbs. I recently saw a candida product labeled with the following: Pau 'D Arco, Black Walnut and Oregano Oil, Biotin (a B-complex vitamin) and Caprylic Acid (a naturally occurring fatty acid derived from plant oils). Do you see the problem here? You might get excellent results taking this product for a few weeks – and then your Candida will be resisting ALL of the above.
